1912 Indian
a 500cc 4-valve Factory Racer

The motorcycle is in the foreground in the photo above of the starting line of the Dodge City half-mile in 1915. The bike was originally owned by O. C. Lovette, an Indian dealer in Kinsley, KS, and was used in area races until the early 20's when the racing rules changed. It was given(?) to Don Evans' father, and he passed it on to Don, who sold it to the Barber Museum where it is now on display.

The bike is 100% original, complete, unrestored, and runs very well. The crank pedals were changed sometime after 1915 to allow the rider to put his left foot down to broadslide the corners; something considered "not proper" in earlier times.

The bike has the original "open port" cylinder head, the original glass sparkplug, and the original "wide open" carburetor (speed is controlled by a kill button and the right-hand twist grip spark advance).
