Checking oil level conundrum

Hello list,

I may have asked this years ago so I apologize in advance. 

I’ve always had issues with getting a proper oil level check in the oil window. The manual says to “run the engine to operating temperature, then shut off and wait 10 minutes for the oil to settle”. Unfortunately this has never worked for me, as the oil level always completely fills the window when I try this method. But then if I let the engine cool overnight, the oil level is usually down near the lower line. Help please. TYIA
